Equations as Balance

Imagine a perfectly balanced scale. On the left: a mystery weight and a 5g weight. On the right: 17g. If you remove the 5g from the left, the scale tips. But if you remove 5g from BOTH sides at once — it stays balanced. That's the entire secret of algebra.
