Derivatives of eˣ and ln(x)

There's a number whose rate of change equals itself — at every point, it grows at exactly its current size. That number is e ≈ 2.718. It's the only function that is its own derivative. And ln(x), its inverse, has a derivative so clean it's a punchline. This is WHY e is special — not by accident, but by definition.
