Drive forever down a perfectly engineered highway and your elevation slowly creeps toward sea level — it gets closer and closer but never quite touches it. Functions do the same: as x grows without bound, f(x) often settles toward a single value. That destination is a horizontal asymptote — the line the graph hugs at the ends of the earth.
