Chemistry you can plug in

The phone in your pocket, the car charging in the driveway, the smoke detector on your ceiling — all run on chemistry deliberately wired to move electrons through a circuit. That's the marvel of electrochemistry.

The trick is to take a redox reaction and physically separate the giving and the taking, so the electrons have no choice but to travel through a wire to get from one to the other.
