Mixing Problems

A tank holds salty water. Fresh brine pours in through one pipe; well-stirred mixture drains out another. How much salt is in the tank at any moment? This classic puzzle is pure bookkeeping: the rate the salt changes equals what flows in minus what flows out. That single balance is a first-order linear equation.
