Intro to PDEs (heat & wave)

Heat a metal bar at one end and the temperature depends on WHERE you are and WHEN you measure — position and time together. A quantity that varies in more than one variable needs partial derivatives ∂u/∂t and ∂u/∂x, and the equations relating them are partial differential equations. The two most famous are the heat equation and the wave equation.
