Pull the variables apart

Some differential equations are secretly two simple integrals stuck together. If you can write dy/dx as a function of x times a function of y, you can shuffle every y to the left, every x to the right, and integrate each side separately. These are separable equations — the first kind most people learn to solve by hand.

If dy/dx = g(x)·h(y), move all y's left and all x's right, then integrate both sides.
