The Pigeonhole Principle

Put 13 pigeons into 12 holes and at least one hole must contain two pigeons — there simply aren't enough holes to give each its own. It sounds almost too obvious to be useful, yet this Pigeonhole Principle guarantees facts you couldn't otherwise prove: in any city of a million people, at least two have the exact same number of hairs on their head.
