The same trick, four disguises

A 20% off sticker, a 20% tip, a 20% markup, a 20% sales tax — they look like four different things, and stores certainly hope they feel different. But underneath, every one of them is the identical calculation: take a percent of a dollar amount. Learn it once and you can handle the register, the restaurant, and the receipt.

Percent of money = amount × (percent ÷ 100). That's the whole secret.
