Vector Addition & Subtraction

A boat points north and motors at 4 knots. A current pushes east at 3 knots. You can't answer 'where does it end up?' with 4 + 3 — the directions are different. The boat's actual path is a diagonal, and the rule for finding it is the same rule your phone uses to combine GPS signals, and a physics engine uses to combine forces.
