Green's Theorem

Walk the fence around a field while a steady wind blows, tallying how much the wind helps you the whole loop. Green's theorem makes an astonishing promise: that total help around the boundary equals the sum of every tiny whirlpool of wind trapped inside the field. The edge knows what's happening in the interior. A loop integral and an area integral turn out to be the same number.
