Momentum

A bowling ball and a ping-pong ball can roll at the same speed, but only one knocks down pins. A slow-moving freight train carries something a darting sparrow never could. There's a quantity that measures 'how much motion' an object packs — combining how heavy it is with how fast it goes — and in collisions, this quantity is never lost. It just gets passed around.
