The thermometer reads 5°C at noon. By midnight it drops 9 degrees. Where does it end up? You can't go below zero and stop — there's a whole world of numbers underneath. Temperatures, debts, elevator floors below the lobby, football yards lost: life keeps needing numbers below zero.
