Scientific Notation

Light crawls about 300,000,000 meters every second. A red blood cell is about 0.000007 meters across. Writing — and counting — all those zeros is exhausting and error-prone. Scientists needed a way to write a number of any size with the same small handful of symbols. The trick: split the number into a friendly part and a power of ten.
