Random Variables

'Heads' and 'tails' aren't numbers — but '1 if heads, 0 if tails' is. The moment you pin a number onto each outcome of a random process, you can average it, add it, and chart it. That number-attached-to-chance is a random variable, usually written X, and it's the workhorse of everything that follows.
