Monte Carlo Simulation

Some probabilities are too tangled to compute with a formula. So mathematicians cheat — beautifully. Instead of solving, they SIMULATE: run the random process thousands or millions of times on a computer and just count how often the thing happens. The fraction you observe is your estimate. This is the Monte Carlo method, named for the casino, and it's how we tame problems no equation can touch.
