Gradient Descent (the engine of machine learning)

Imagine you're blindfolded on a hillside and must reach the lowest valley. You can't see the bottom, but you can feel which way is downhill. So you take a small step that way, feel again, step again — and slowly descend. That's gradient descent, and it's how almost every modern neural network learns.
